My friends know me as a farmer, a long-distance runner, a traveler, a crafter, and a cat cuddling master. My colleagues call me a chemical engineer, an emergency rescuer, an auditor, a project manager, and a gym instructor. Each of these demands (1) curiosity (2) adaptability (3) endurance. Indeed, these are the three core webs weaving all of my identities together. Adding a sprinkle of humor and here is me!

Software Development

In January 2023, I started my software development journey officially with Tech Elevator. During the 14-week full-stack Java coding bootcamp, I had learned how to develop dynamic web-based software systems using the Java programming language and platform with 800+ hours of lecture and application including:

  • Object-Oriented Programming: Java
  • Web Application Development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Spring Boot, Vue.js
  • Database Programming: JDBC, Table Design, SQL, PostgreSQL, E/R diagrams
  • Development tools and techniques: Agile, Unit Testing (JUnit), Integration Testing, Unix Command Line navigation, Git, IntelliJ
  • Since then, I've been training myself on the following via any fun online certification programs that I could locate:

  • Intro to React.js (SuperHi)
  • Google Cloud Foundations (LinkedIn)
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials Day (AWS)
  • AWS Cloud for Technical Professionals (Salesforce Trailhead)
  • Getting Started with AI and Machine Learning (LinkedIn)
  • Scrum: Advanced (LinkedIn)
  • Agile Requirements Foundations (LinkedIn)
  • Eager to apply new skills as I learn, below are some projects I've played with

    More About Me

I am hà - a strategic planner, an organizer, and a curious learner. I’d like to share a little bit about who I am as a person, how I recently started my coding journey with Tech Elevator, and why I’m excited about the trail ahead.

I am from Ha Noi, Viet Nam, where you can find the best chicken noodle soup in my biased opinion. I came to the United States over 15+ years ago starting with learning English as Second Language in Florida. I then found a scholarship for the Chemical Engineering program at Drexel University and relocated to Philly where I’ve been living for the past 12+ years.

Since graduating with BS/ MS in Chemical Engineering, I’ve gained a lot of my creative problem-solving and detail-oriented skills from my long-term work as an engineer at FUJIFILM over the past 9 years. I’d used technical knowledge to lead the implementation of continuous improvement projects in various areas such as human resources, quality control, quality assurance, supply chain, manufacturing, and research & development. As a lead auditor and supervisor, I initiated program evaluation and then utilized the information to develop necessary training programs along with supporting kits for technicians to cover any identified gaps. In the last 4+ years, my focus has been on R&D and project management across a global team (Japan, U.S., and U.K. are the focus).

Besides my engineering work over the years, community building is essential to my day. It gives me a comforting sense of connecting to my culture of giving back and living in the community the way I’ve been raised. Therefore, in 2017, after searching for opportunities to expand my capacity, I decided to go through a master's program in Nonprofit Leadership while working full-time. I was exploring ways to play a larger role in sustainability improvement at my former company when the pandemic hit. At the same time, family needs unexpectedly arose which led me to leave the company to spend some extended time back home in Viet Nam. It was tough but the decision and its timing enabled me to set up the company with the needed tools for a smoother future transition than I could've otherwise. I’m glad to share that our family weathered the challenge and is moving forward to brighter days.

I started thinking outside of the box about the path forward for my career and found Tech Elevator. Engineering is part of my skills and working with a human-oriented mindset is my passion. Coding offers the language that allows me to merge these. I graduated from Tech Elevator full-stack Java bootcamp on April 21, 2023, and am now very excited to broaden my horizons at my new full-time job as an application engineer. I always love to hear of opportunities to practice, collaborate, and contribute all my old and new skills. Thus, if you'd like to exchange skills/ ideas or are searching for a freelance programmer who believe every difficult problem can be solved more effectively with collective brilliance, let's connect!
